A novel resurgence of an old romantic genre. Although vampires, themselves, don’t lend themselves to be endearing characters, Meyer successfully puts them into human-like conflict situations that we can all relate to. In a rare instance, the movie adaptation is better than the book itself because the subtle effect of black/white cannot be translated in a book. Skillful filmmaking on their part, all of which makes for a compelling series of adventures.
