Read about for A Linux Webserver now

Ordered this book so long ago, can’t remember when. Has it been six weeks? Still hasn’t arrived. So much for my participation in the book club. If I had ordered it at Wal-Mart, I would have paid slightly more, but had it 5 weeks earlier.

The Kindle is a great product. I received it as a gift from my wife. I am from and live in Mexico, but I have always liked to read books in English. It is an excellent way to practice the language and it also gives me access to a great variety of authors. Thanks to the Kindle I have immediate access to a huge array of books. 3G works perfectly in Mexico and in seconds I can buy books and have them downloaded in my Kindle immediately. Actually, I now find myself reading more than before. I have also found a good amount of books in Spanish, mostly classics; I think Amazon is doing a good job in expanding its book offers in languages other than English. The display of the Kindle is excellent; I can read for hours as if reading a normal book. I can travel and have a good amount of books to read without overloading my luggage. I highly recommend this product.

Being an Systems Engineer, this book gets you started, but there’s more to ask for. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re not familiar with Linux/Unix this is a great book. It’s explained in plain English with easy to follow instructions. For us who wants more hard core, we can always use google.com.

9 0 LINUX Mandrake Final

originally, i was ecstatic with this purchase and literally couldn’t be happier. unfortunately, the memory card became unusable after i left the original review. i received this card about 2.5 months ago and it worked great up until last week. every time i went to use it in my camera, it would say “memory card error”. not only would it not work, it would also corrupt any photos or videos i had taken with that card (losing critical shots). i’ve tried to reformat it several times both on the camera and on my computer. it will work for a couple hours and then the same error occurs. i just can’t trust it anymore after having lost so much photo/video data. i’m disappointed that it worked so great at first, and now i’m left with the feeling that i essentially wasted $100 with no recourse.

original review:

i purchased this memory card for my brand new digital camera (canon powershot SX1 IS). since it takes HD video and has raw capability for digital cameras, i needed the largest memory card i could find that was still SDHC class 6. i couldn’t have been happier when i stumbled across this affordable memory card with so much space. i’ve only had it for a couple weeks, but i’ve had no problems yet (and have been using it extensively). the only minor issue (and i have a feeling it’s my laptop and not the memory card), is sometimes when i upload the images to my laptop…it says there are “errors” with a few photos and i have to manually copy those over (instead of it transferring through the photo wizard). again, i think that might be a computer issue…and even so, not a problem since i can just open the memory card folder and drag them over.

this card comes highly recommended!

Read about Journal Linux now

This is an incredible tool. I was doubtful that it could perform well enough to justify the price (I had seen it at my vet’s priced at $49). When I saw it at this price I decided to try it. It is worth the money. I LOVE it – and so does my dog.
Thanks!!!

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

If you like fantasy, you would love Artemis Fowl because it takes
place in Dublin, Ireland and has to do with breaking the barrier
between faeries and humans. Instead of faeries being the average
old fashioned kind, faeries live underground after we won the
“Eternal War”. The LEP(lower elements police) actually are
hundreds of years ahead of us and have evolved into a high tech
civilization. Artemis Fowl captures an LEP officer named Holly
Short with help from his bodyguard, Butler. Then the LEP try to get
Holly back. Artemis’s intention is to not hurt Holly but to trade
her for gold. The LEP decides to kill Artemis in many ways. Read
to see if Artemis survives!

I recommend this book to solo readers from eight to eighty. This book is
about a battle between faeries and humans but no one dies or gets hurt.
Artemis Fowl is on audio books, hardback and paperback. The best
feature is you have a code to crack on the bottom that is related to the
code in the book. This is the first in a fantasy series and you should
read Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident next.

Oracle 10g Linux Database low class

As an experienced Oracle DBA, I wanted a nice text that covers Linux specifics to Oracle 10g. This book is okay not perfect but the only real Oracle 10g for Linux book on the market.

Good
1. RAC coverage is decent
2. Linux tuning for Oracle is nice

Bad
1. Data Guard coverage is very weak
2. No workarounds for installation issues with Linux and Oracle

So I give it 3 stars because its not bad but not great. I hope that the other Linux for Oracle RAC book that comes out next year is better.

Love this pedometer! Easy to set up, easy to use, and the memory function is great too. The only downside is that it is almost as large as my cell phone and when it is clipped to my waist it does catch on my purse sometimes.
